The Eastern Campus Student Government has applied themselves diligently to help improve the college this spring.
In previous semesters, there were discussions surrounding the implementation of course evaluations, something that most higher education institutions already offer. These concise surveys are typically administered toward the end of a semester for each subject that a student has participated in. In collaboration with the Ammerman and Grant SGAs, a resolution was passed that will carry out these surveys in semesters to come.
Our main concern this semester has been the conditions of the Peconic Café. The food services here at Eastern Campus are a bit different than at Ammerman and Grant, as ours are not funded by Aramark. SGA’s goal was to spread awareness about the existence of the café itself and expand on its selection of food choices. Every other week since the beginning of March, we have offered specials such as Chinese food and Tex-Mex for the day during peak hours, 11 am to 1 pm. Aaron Jacino, the chef, prepares the food, and a member of the Student Government volunteers their time to help serve it behind the counter. Also, to raise money for new equipment in the kitchen, we held a car wash on April 8. We made $234, and Jacino used the earnings to purchase a new toaster and a set of knives. Jacino, Loretta, and the rest of the kitchen staff are vital members of the Eastern Campus community, and we wanted to use the bulk of our time to support them as much as possible. Next semester, we hope to continue the specials and further the advertisement of the Peconic Café.
This semester has been rather productive, but our commitment to making student life the best it can be on Eastern Campus hasn’t stopped yet.
