Campus Pie Feast

On Wednesday, November 16th, the Suffolk County Community College Eastern campus held a Thanksgiving Dessert Celebration for both students and faculty. The event took place in the Peconic Cafe from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.

There were eight varieties of pies served, including apple, pecan, pumpkin, cherry, coconut cream, Boston cream and sweet potato. All pies were provided by SCCC’s The Baker’s Workshop, a student-run bakery that serves as both a classroom for culinary students and a bakery for the public, located on East Main Street in Riverhead. Pastries were provided by Frank’s Bakery in Mastic, a small but popular business. Faculty, administrators, and Campus Activities staff helped to serve the desserts.

Denny Teason, Director of Campus Activities, says, “Before the pandemic, we would traditionally have a big Thanksgiving Feast for the campus where we had food from our cafe and from local restaurants. Because of the cafe being closed, and because of budgetary challenges, we refocused this year to make it a pies and pastry giveaway.”

There was live music, coffee, tea, and other giveaways to celebrate the upcoming holiday season as a campus.
